In America in the beginning, the performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely place her into the child prodigy category. But for a person with Irish background, surrounded by talented parents and family, those were not innate traits. Maureen joined this wonderful sanctuary in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. Marguerita FitzSimons' mother, Lilburn, was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons was a successful businessman from Dublin who also controlled a portion of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and participated in rough, competitive sports when she was a young. The passion for sports was matched by a natural talent for performance. Her winning of almost all the Feis Awards for her home country's theater and drama was a testament to the fact that she was a natural performer. The Abbey Theater was her first choice. Abbey Theater by age 14 She then was able to fulfill her goals of opera and classical singing and theater.
